The Autumn Is Upon Us
The gardens are slowly dying, and it is time to get ready for winter here at Cloverleaf Farm.
While there are still a few tomatoes hanging on the vines, all other vegetables have gone by. They are either canned or frozen for winter delights. The raspberries have been liking this rainy weather, and are producing like crazy. Great…more for the freezer.
Our pumpkins are picked, and stored for winter soups. The calendula seeds are picked daily for next season. The marigolds are the only color left in the garden, besides a few sunflowers. The sunflower seeds will be dried for their Vitamin E content, and some will be saved for planting next spring. Our sunflowers (and calendula and marigolds) are now in the 10th generation of seeds. Yes, we practice seed saving here on the farm.
Our beans will soon be picked for both dried beans, and seeds for next year.
There are cords and cords of wood to be stacked for heating and cooking on our wood stove. Bless that old wood stove.
Yes, winter is coming. The brown of Autumn will soon be replaced with white, and it is rather busy here.
