Making Your Own Clothes Is Fun And It Saves Money
Sewing your own clothes is fun, and it can save money. You buy a pattern once, and then use it over and over. Even if you gain or lose weight, you can adjust a pattern to fit you.
Shopping for new patterns can be fun. Flipping through the pages of the new Simplicity pattern book, and seeing what new things you can make. I have even gotten into making my own. It brings out the “creative bug” in me.
I have been making my own clothes for years. Blouses, vests, hats, pants, and skirts. Pillows, seat covers, curtains and bags. You name it, and I have probably made it. I like making my own skirts, buy making blankets for my granddaughter, has turned into one of my favorite things to sew. No one can have enough blankets, right?
Sewing can be a great creative outlet. You see a piece of fabric, and your mind immediately races to what it shall become.
Pattern For Gored Skirt

The pattern to the right, is one I created for making gored skirts. It’s fast, fun and easy to do. Gored skirts are a good first project for someone. I would say it is a easy to intermediate pattern.
Simply cut out either 5, 7 or 9 (or more if like) gores. Sew together at side seams. Hem bottom and add a tie, or elastic waistband at the top. If you are going to use more than 9 gores, you would have to adjust the waist measurement a bit. If you don’t, you will get way to much fabric gathered at the waist.
Outside pockets can be added when you are done with the skirt.
