History of The Use of Lemon Balm Herb

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is one of my favorite herbs. We grow it all over the farm, and we sell more Lemon Balm Ointment than any other product.  Lemon balm is used both internally and externally. Externally, it is used for herpes, herpes cold sores, shingles, and many other viral skin infections. Internally, lemon balm tea makes a great sedative, or calming tea.

Lemon balm has deep roots in history, and it has been used since ancient times. Pliny the Elder used it much the same was as Pedanius Dioscorides did.  |

Nicholas Culpeper stated “Lemon Balm causeth the mind and heart to become merry…, and boy was he right.
