Happy Halloween…The History of Halloween
Halloween, my favorite holiday. For many people, it means dressing up in costumes and going trick or treating for candy. But, that is not how the holiday first started. Halloween in Ancient times was known as Samhain. Samhain is pronounce sow-in. It is an ancient Celtic festival. For Pagans, Wiccans and other Earth based religions, it is the start of the New Year.
Halloween in America was not really practiced during the early part of the countries history. Halloween became more popular as immigrants from other countries brought over their Halloween traditions.
Today, Halloween in America is celebrated in so many different ways. Some cities and towns hold festivals, parades, parties. The all important part for children is of course the trick or treating for goodies.
No matter how you practice Halloween be safe.
