Happy Earth Day
Today marks the 41st anniversary of Earth Day. The orignial Earth Day was celebrated in 1970.
We are celebrating by teaching Autumn how to plant her first seeds.
Now, I know being only a year old, she will not have a clue to what we are doing. She will want to dig and play in the dirt, and she will not understand that the tiny little seed we are planting, will someday end up on her plate at dinner. It is more likely that she will want to eat the seed, than to plant it.Â
We are doing it to teach her the love of plants. We want to plant the seed of the love of nature in her. She already enjoys being outdoors, more than indoors, so we have a head start. I think she would spend her whole day outside, rain or shine, if you let her. This is fine by me, since I too would rather be barefoot, feeling the earth between my toes.
Today, Autumn and I will be planting seeds. What will you be doing to celebrate Earth Day?
