Do You Have Gluten Intolerance? Perhaps Not.
It’s the latest craze. Going “gluten free”. “Gluten Free” foods are popping up in stores, and you can find loads of gluten free food recipes online. Due to all the hype on the internet and in the media, people are getting on the band wagon and are avoiding grains. The recent hype is creating a situation where people believe that all grains, such as rye, wheat and barley are causing a wide range of health issues in the human body. Perhaps for some, but probably not for everyone.
It’s true, the grains of today, are not the grains of yesteryear. Over the years, they have been altered and hybridized. This does not mean that they are bad for you. It just means they have changed. Grains contain natural fiber and nutrients that are of dietary importance. Sadly, people are avoiding grains like the plague, and it’s not necessary.
Out of all the hype comes a research team in Europe. They believe that abstaining from gluten for life is almost impossible, and truly not probable. These researchers found an overlooked study done in 2011. The 2011 European study took biopsies from patients with Celiac Disease. In the lab, they added Vitamin C to the lab dishes that contained gut tissue. The positive effects were pretty clear. The inflammatory markers that cause Celiac Disease disappeared. The research proved that it is not grains at all, but a lack of Vitamin C in our diets. Read more about it in the link below.
