Ditching Cable Television!
Are You Glued To The Tube?

Could You Live Without Television?
Ask yourself one question? What would my life be without my television? Would you be able to live without your television?
Now, when I speak of television, I am talking about cable or satellite television. You know, the one where you get 854 channels of mindless entertainment. There is really nothing on, but you sit there zombie like flipping through all the channels. You sit there, coma like, because you can’t imagine not doing it. You can’t imagine life without television.
Okay, maybe you have your favorite shows. You can’t give up TV and miss episodes of The Biggest Loser, America’s Got Talent, or Desperate Housewives! Really? If you miss an episode of Desperate Housewives, what will happen?
Let’s say you watch 4 channels. There are still 850 channels left that you don’t watch, but are still paying for. Did you ever ask yourself why you are paying hundreds of dollars a month to watch 4 channels?
When the world went digital, we said goodbye to our television as we knew it. We refuse to pay.
Commercial Frenzy
For each one hour show, there is 20 minutes or so worth of mind altering commercials trying to sell you something you don’t need.”
These commercials use 10-20 (or more) images in a 60 second commercial. Do you really need that kind of input seeping into your brain? You come home from a long day at work, turn on the TV, and your mind is battered with more. No wonder there is so much stress out there. With all those images coming at you, I have to wonder if a commercial has ever elicited epileptic seizure.
There are 40 images in a 2 minute Snuggie commercial below.
Call Now and Get A Free Light Worth $15
Someone got rich off this one. A Snuggie. Basically a large bathrobe with sleeves. You could buy a large bathrobe, and wear it backwards and get the same effect.
The woman at the beginning of the commercial is frustrated because her blanket isn’t covering her whole body. DUH! Get a bigger blanket.
Oh, but you can use the remote, read a book, or use your lap top. Oh, I can’t use the remote without a Snuggie. Super large, one size fits all? So the woman who is 5’4″, and weighs 120 pounds is going to drown in it.
I guess the people who bought a Snuggie have never heard of either using a larger blanket, or a heavier sweater to keep warm.
Oh, but they did get a free press and open book light worth $15.00!
PS. If you watch this, please notice the part when they are at the game. The Snuggie comes flying open from behind. How warm can that be?
Life Without Cable
When television went from analog to digital, we went without. We still have a TV in the living room, but that is it. No TV in the bedroom, no TV in the kitchen or any other room. It lies quiet in the living room as a reminder to the past. A sort of grave.
We do still use the television, but only to watch movies. Friday is movie night. We go to the library, and take out movies to watch. We do have a small collection of movies, but we don’t go overboard. One can only watch so many movies.
So, you ask, what is life like without cable? It is a blessing. It frees up time to read that book, or spend time with family. It’s one less distraction from a busy life.
Oh, yeah, and it’s quiet.
Life Without Cable… It’s A Beautiful Life
